Family therapy has certainly evolved over the years. It used to be that families would not seek therapy unless they were in dire straits. Now, we are happy to say, that oftentimes families seek therapy in order to create healthier and more open relationships. At it’s core the purpose of family therapy is to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members.
We see a wide variety of family combinations in our offices. Whole Family
|
Partial Family
|
Obviously this is not a comprehensive list, as the combinations are endless, but we want clients to know that any and all family combinations are welcome at Jenny Coffey Counseling.
There is no one size fits all approach when it comes to family therapy. We are committed to creating a customized treatment plan for each family that walks through our doors. Each session often looks different and sometimes we will suggest that only certain members of the family attend certain sessions. We tend to blend a variety of therapeutic modalities, in a well planned eclectic approach. The most commonly used theories/techniques are: Structural Therapy, Milan therapy, Strategic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Transgenerational Therapy. |
